Joy Maureen Denalane is a German singer-songwriter, who fuses soul, R&B, and African folk music with lyrics in German and English. Inspired by music from the period around the end of the 1960s to 1973, Joy's music has a classic, vintage feel. Following her 2020 Motown-esque album, Let Yourself Be Loved, Joy releases a cover of Bill Withers' 'Use Me'. Almost identical to the original, the keys play that instantly recognisable clavinet sound, underlaid with piano. Being such a classic song makes it a hard one to cover, but Joy certainly does it justice. Her singing is powerful and soulful, even a hint sassy. There are moments of vocal explosion as she ad-libs so effortlessly. Joy says, 'In memory of this great songwriter who passed away a year ago, I recorded a new version of his song 'Use Me'.
